Valentines Day!
Students should feel free to bring any cards in to do a card exchange at 3:30 pm Thursday
Planner
In an effort to help with communication on what is happening here and what is due, we are trying to do a weekly planner online. Check the planner page for details.
Camp
The total cost for your fifth grader to attend this year will be $218.50 for the 5 day trip. PTO has graciously agreed to sponsor the transportation to and from camp. What’s Due and What’s Coming Up:
Ask your student what is homework every night?They should respond that they have 20-30 minutes of reading, and a study link in math. Week-long assignments include a Take Home Task in Spelling and writing assignments such as a reading letter or publishing a story.What if they say that they are all done?It is possible; I like to give them class time to work on assignments.Many students are able to complete the reading letter in class.
Simple Machines in Science
Blast off into Simple Machines!Our new science unit is underway.I knew that students would be excited about the kit, and a few have agreed that using Lego’s as science tools has been fun.Levers are the first topic of investigation, and we have concluded that using a longer lever arm reduces the amount of work.See if your student can identify the levers in the picture at right, and describe how levers reduce the amount of effort force needed to lift or move a load.Students should expect a ‘quiz’ next week, to test their knowledge on the objectives we have covered.There will be no study guide for this, but students will be encouraged to look over the completed journal pages.
